Tour Itinerary: Marrakech To Merzouga Desert Tour 4 Days

Day 1Tour from Marrakech to Dades Valley {330 km} 7 Hours

Starting at 8:00 a.m., your 4-day journey from Marrakech to Merzouga will kick off with a pick-up by our driver from your hotel in Marrakech. The trip will take you to Dades Valley, through the Tizi-N-Tichka pass, which stands at an elevation of 2260 m above sea level in the High Atlas mountains.

As we travel through the mountains, we’ll enjoy the stunning scenery and admire the beautiful landscapes with their varied colors. Along the way, we’ll pass through several authentic Berber villages before reaching Ouarzazate to visit Taourirt Kasbah, one of the most spectacular ksars in Morocco, and the Oscar film studios. Here, we’ll stop for lunch before continuing our journey.

The next site on our itinerary is the Rose Valley, where we’ll drive through the impressive Skoura palm grove, a magnificent location to take in the surrounding scenery and numerous kasbahs built in the area. In this valley, damascene roses are cultivated for cosmetic use, such as the highly valued rosewater. This valley is an important museum for Moroccan culture, and the Rose Festival is held annually here in May.

After our visit to the Rose Valley, we’ll proceed to Dades Valley, where we’ll spend the night at a hotel that overlooks the valley.

Day 2From Dades Valley to Merzouga desert {270 km} 4 Hours

Embarking on day two of our 4-day Marrakech to Merzouga tour, we will fuel up with a delicious breakfast at the hotel before setting off towards the Todra Gorge. As we travel through the Berber villages and pass through Tinghir, we will be captivated by the stunning Todra valley filled with palm trees.

Upon arriving at the Todra Gorges, which are renowned as one of the most popular rock climbing destinations in Morocco, we will take a short stroll through the grey and pink high canyons that can soar up to 300m. Our journey will then continue to Tinjdad and Touroug, where we will stop for lunch before proceeding to Erfoud – the beginning of the Saharan oasis of Tafilalet.

The next stop on our itinerary will be Merzouga, which is home to the majestic Erg Chebbi dunes. Here, we will embark on an unforgettable experience as we take a camel ride for about one and a half hours towards our Nomadic Berber tents. Along the trek, we will pause in the middle of the dunes to admire the sunset, try sandboarding, capture some memorable photos and enjoy the breathtaking scenery.

As night falls, we will arrive at the Berber camp Merzouga where we will be greeted with a refreshing glass of mint tea. Our evening will be filled with a sumptuous dinner, campfire, music party and an overnight stay in the heart of the dunes.

 
 
 

Day 3FULL DAY TO EXPLORE THE SAHARA DESERT {57 Km} 1 Hour

On DAY 3 of your Marrakech to Merzouga Desert Tour 4 Days, get ready for an exhilarating day of exploring the Sahara desert! To fully experience the beauty of the desert, we highly recommend waking up early to catch a stunning sunrise from the nearest dune. Once you’ve had a delicious breakfast at the camp, we’ll hop in our 4×4 SUV and head off to discover the wonders of the Merzouga desert.

During our journey, we’ll have the chance to meet the Berber Nomads who reside behind the dunes. You’ll get a glimpse into their daily lifestyle and learn about how they’ve managed to survive in such a harsh environment. Along the way, we’ll also visit the charming, deserted village of Mefis and listen to the captivating sounds of Gnawa music in the nearby village of Khamlia. If the Lake of Birds is full, we’ll make a stop there as well.

After a fulfilling day of exploration, we’ll make our way back to your riad where you can check-in and enjoy some leisure time. Take a refreshing swim or stroll to the nearby dunes before dinner is served in the evening. You’ll have the option to spend the night at your riad or at the desert camp once again if you desire. Once we reach Ouarzazate, we will pause for lunch and take the opportunity to capture some stunning photographs of the historical monument, the “Taourirt Kasbah.” From here, we will continue our journey towards Marrakech, passing through the majestic High Atlas Mountains.
